Pablo Hatz
-vs-
Daniele Giulio 'Dada' Rota

CBCB - Intellectual Fight Club - 09 May 2015
Platoon Kunsthalle, Berlin

Winning debut in Berlin for Daniele Rota. Last night, Saturday 9 May 2015, he defeated 19-year-old Berlin chessboxer Pablo Hatz in three rounds. The latter proved to be very strong in boxing, which he has been practicing for three years, but Daniele has shown that he has a better strategic and execution plan in place and ultimately won in chess.

The Rota played with the black pieces and, on the opening of the opponent's king, opted for a Scandinavian defense. The idea was to open the game immediately and it turned out to be a good move. Hatz was immediately in trouble and was losing material. Daniel broke the pedestrian structure on the king's side and, therefore, Hatz decided to castle along. And then the FISP chessboxer turned his attention to the center of the board and to the west side: he activated his pieces by centralizing them and did damage in the opponent's rear area gaining additional material.

Hatz played too fast, failing to follow the very fast pace of execution of the moves imposed by Daniele: at the end of the first round he had consumed a dozen seconds). The German, on the other hand, should have slowed down, both to have more time to play better moves, and to play fewer moves to be guaranteed more boxing rounds. But instead in the first round he moved quickly and played so many moves that he came dangerously close to taking checkmate.

In front of the 350 spectators who sold out, Daniele also broke the opponent's side and, with bishop, queen and knight, prepared threats of checkmate. Hatz's defense became difficult and the gong sounded just when Daniel could have performed the checkmate move. It was therefore necessary to hold out for a resumption of boxing to win the match, with Hatz attempting to resolve the match with a knockout.

The second round saw the German forward very vehemently, probably too much; because Hatz is a very strong boxer, but when you are in too much of a hurry to try to KO you usually don't do much good. However, the difference in boxing between Rota and Hatz was remarkable, the German always on the offensive and Daniele who tried to defend himself as best he could in a very small ring, it must have been a 3 by 3 meters, where it was difficult to move to hold the opponent at the distance.

Indeed, Daniele was generous to the audience and also sought some exchanges with the opponent that exposed him dangerously to Hatz's powerful punches. But the German in the impetus of the search for the out of combat hit mainly the face and very little to the body. In addition, in the heat, he sometimes pushed the player from Bergamo forcing the referee to call the stop and passing precious seconds that allowed our player to finish the second half still standing and ready to take home the victory.

And at the beginning of the 3rd round the epilogue: Daniele played DxTb1 and gave checkmate. Explosion from the audience, lots of applause and a hero's exit from the ring. The FISP has already made contacts to allow Daniele, and the other FISP athletes, to fight again abroad.
