Battle of the Cities London vs Berlin - 24 June 2011
Tape Club, Berlin

The last fight of the evening had to decide who was ahead: London or Berlin! The Berlin newcomer Lukasz “Frog Kosowski” got into the ring against the experienced Daniel Rivas Lazarraga. Lukasz started chess very nervously and had already lost a lot of material by the end of round 1. With the experience of over 80 amateur fights, Lukasz then suddenly attacked Daniel in the first round of boxing. Daniel, hopelessly inferior in boxing, kept trying to cling to avoid getting knocked out. In the third round, the next surprising turn of events: Daniel, impressed by the many hard blows he had to endure, stopped the lady, but still had a material advantage. In the 4th round of boxing Daniel received his first time penalty for clinging. Lukasz clearly dominated in the ring, but was unable to get the final knockout. In the 5th round of chess there was a wild exchange of blows: two moves before checkmate, Lukasz escaped into the 6th round of boxing. But despite the rain, Daniel managed to get to the winning seventh round of chess. After 20 seconds in round 7, the checkmate was a relief for Daniel and the London Chessboxing Club.
