| Nils Becker and Valentin Vonnemann, Jonathan’s brother, also showed a spectacular fight. Becker, three-time German Team Chess Champion put Vonnemann under pressure on the board right from the first bell, while Vonnemann pushed Becker to the brink of defeat in the ring. As the fight progressed, Becker was losing more ground in the ring and responded with fast moves on the board to increase the time pressure on Vonnemann. In the ninth round, his strategy prevailed when Vonnemann lost by way of thinking time expiry. |
