Gianluca Sirci and Gianni Burli returned to Umbria last night from the trip to Moscow where Gianluca was beaten by Nikolay Sazhin in the fight valid for the world heavyweight title. The conclusion at the 9th round (the odd ones are the chess ones); this means that Sirci, playing with the black pieces, managed to get to the fifth round of chess with an opponent much more valued than him in chess.
The folignate was indeed aiming to win before the limit in boxing but Sazhin showed himself to be very good in boxing. Reached by phone last night, Gianluca declared that in Italy very few boxers would have been struck by two of his powerful and clean right hooks, but the new World Champion managed to get out of these difficult moments.
Maestro Gianni Burli said "we came very close" we hope to have the opportunity to try again. The new Heavyweight Champion, Nikolay Sazhin, had previously been the Light Heavyweight World Champion, as well as being recognized as heavyweight champion by the WCBA, the other international organization. For Sazhin it is important to have won in the Russian capital, his country of origin; this gives him prestige and visibility and also receives the chess game that takes its first steps outside Siberia. |
